Sink or Float?

Last week we worked with our buddies as we explored our pumpkins.
We discovered that we were very surprised that our pumpkins floated...even the big ones!
We were left with a lot of questions!

To get some answers, we paired up with Mrs. Kirn's Class, made some predictions about cut up pumpkins, and then we experimented!  The results continued to amaze us!

Like A Monkey!

This week we learned the two sounds oo can make. To help us remember the oo sound as in school, we enjoyed singing this fun song!

Pumpkinology

We had a great time exploring science concepts with our pumpkins!  We explored sink and float and measuring & comparing height and circumference.  We even got a chance to practice using a hand lens to get a closer look at all the parts of our pumpkins!

A Visit from the Fire Department

Yesterday we had a visit from the fire department!  We review fire safety and important rules like "stop, drop, and roll" and "get low and go".  In addition, we got to see a fireman dressed in his gear. We learned about emergency vehicles and got a close look at the fire engine and tools that firemen use.

Publishing Party

During Writer's Workshop this quarter, we have all become writers!  We have learned many skills that good writers use.  We have looked at mentor text and have gathered a lot of ideas for ways to make our writing better!
We celebrated on Friday with a Publishing Party.  We shared our writing with other kindergarten classes and they shared their writing with us!
When you come into the building, you will find our books proudly displayed in the hallway.

Ee is for Elmer Elephant!

This week we introduced the short sound of Ee, as in elephant. We are also learning to identify the difference between fiction and non-fiction text.  We used these two skills to have a little fun with Ee.  In the picture you can see the fiction and non-fiction books we read and the pictures we made!
Enjoy!

Guest Reader

On Friday, we were honored with a guest reader from the GV football team!  He read us a book about fall.
