Warming up for the Holidays!

Our kindness elf gave us a special kindness act to perform. He was thinking about the homeless and the cold weather and he asked us to collect new or used blankets for them. Blankets can be any size. We have a collection box in our classroom and will be collecting them until Christmas break.
Thanks for helping with this small act of kindness!

Christmas Kindness

Our Kindness Elf has visited each day with an act of kindness for us! Today we picked up trash on our school grounds. Last week we learned to give compliments, made thank you cards for teachers and family members, and sat by someone new at lunch.
We have learned that these small acts of kindness are most certainly a win-win! What a great way to learn about Habit 4: Think win-win!

Fire Fighter Kyle!

This week we had a visit from Fire Fighter Kyle. We are so thankful for his time and the valuable lessons he taught us about fire safety!(This did not post when I tried in October and I just noticed it! Sorry it's a little late but so worth it!)

Just Hanging Out....

And learning our sight words!
This week we used Google Hangout to meet a first grade class at Luff Elementary. The first graders helped us learn this week's sight words by chanting them!

The Biggest Win!

We have been learning leadership skills by studying the 7 Habits. We have been practicing the first 3: I'm in charge of me, begin with the end in mind & put first things first. Who better to model these habits than the KC Royals?!
On Friday we had a little Royal celebration and wrote letter to our favorite players!

Don't Let the Pigeon...

During Writing Workshop this week we have been learning to read like an author. We have been studying the work of author/illustrator Mo Willems and trying some of his techniques in our books!

We were inspired by his book, Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus and used it to create our own class book.

WE ARE READERS!

Today we wrapped up our first unit of study in reading workshop. We learned that we are all readers. We can read story books or books that teach us about the world. We can retell stories, and sound just like the characters when we do!

Here we are enjoying a new book that we will enjoy reading!

Sports Day

We have enjoyed Spirit Week!  Today we celebrated sports day by getting our minds and bodies in shape. We practiced counting to 100 while exercising! Here we are checking our growing muscles after that hard work!

Watch Us Learn!

This week we have been learning how the iPad can be used as a tool to help us learn. We are exploring different apps and learning how to care for and navigate them. We used iPads today to practice math skills and to write letters and words.
