WE ARE READERS!

Today we wrapped up our first unit of study in reading workshop. We learned that we are all readers. We can read story books or books that teach us about the world. We can retell stories, and sound just like the characters when we do!

Here we are enjoying a new book that we will enjoy reading!

Sports Day

We have enjoyed Spirit Week!  Today we celebrated sports day by getting our minds and bodies in shape. We practiced counting to 100 while exercising! Here we are checking our growing muscles after that hard work!

Trip trap! Trip trap! Who's that tramping over my bridge?

Today we made our story come alive as we practiced reading words as the character would say them!
Then we practiced in groups with stick puppets.

Watch Us Learn!

This week we have been learning how the iPad can be used as a tool to help us learn. We are exploring different apps and learning how to care for and navigate them. We used iPads today to practice math skills and to write letters and words.

Super Improvers!

Our Super Improvers program is well underway and a great success! Students are learning to be proactive as they manage their own behavior at school. Many have earned their first reward.
Notice how proud and excited they look sharing favorite stuffed animals and using the special school supplies!

Look how we are learning to work together....

Each day we spend time sharing non-fiction books.

Developing Number Sense

As  we learn to read and write numbers, we have also been learning different ways to show them. Today, we used 5 frames and counters to practice this skill.

The Gunnywolf

This has become one of our favorite stoybooks! We have had a lot of fun reading and retelling this story. We even got to work with a partner to "read" it with puppets!

There's a leader in me....

Have you heard your kindergartener talk about being proactive? Or being in charge of themselves? This week we introduced the 7 habits of happy & healthy kids and we focused on Habit 1, Being Proactive.
Today we had a visit from our 5th grade buddies. Together we listened to a story and pulled details from the text that demonstrated how the character could have been more proactive. Finally we made a picture of ourselves and we each pledged to be in charge of ourself.
